52 Faces || Eva Paterson

February 2, 2018

Eva Paterson is such a force. I had the honor of hearing her speak at my school, Berkeley Law, last week as part of the United Against White Supremacy symposium that was hosted by the Berkeley Journal of African American Law and Policy, Asian American Law Journal, La Raza Law Journal, and Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Law. Ms. Paterson is the co-founder of and currently runs the Equal Justice Society, an organization that "aims to broaden conceptions of present-day discrimination to include unconscious and structural bias by using social science, structural analysis, and real-life experience." She spoke about the work that she does to fight against white supremacy and what we, as future lawyers, can do to continue supporting our communities.

I chose these photos for my portraits of the week because I felt like the captured a lighthearted side that was much-needed after a day of intense conversation. That day was one of the most grounding educational experiences I have probably had so far in law school, and I can't wait to see what's next. Maybe one day I will be coming back to be the keynote speaker...
